INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

The Children’s Museum of Art: Art Administration & Education intern

Working as an intern at The Children’s Museum of Art I was surrounded by a diverse community of colleagues and students that advanced my perception of art. I assisted with the development of projects while keeping in mind the diverse age groups of students touring the museum. While maintaining a professional manner I strived to create an inviting environment for children as the internship intersected art administration and art education. I learned to prioritize information based on importance while researching other children’s programs based in Manhattan. This internship developed my critical thinking and ability to teach in a gallery space. Because this was specifically a children’s museum, I learned to adjust my speech based on the age of the tour group and any requests the specific school may have had. The Children’s Museum of Art developed my ability to work with diverse groups of students in the context of art and develop excitement towards creation while educating.

The Wexner Center for the Arts : Learning and Public Practice Intern

My internship in Learning and Public Practice allowed me to take my passion for the arts and translate it into community engagement. Working on a team dedicated to the development of art within Columbus gave me an understanding of the impact an art institution can have. I assisted with the process of planning activities and events for the community, which led to being conscious of accessibility within the arts and how a program will impact its viewers. The development of programs existed within strict timelines and developed my time management abilities. Focusing on the impact of events afforded me a specific vernacular for analyzing how a program was perceived, which, in turn, allowed me to create outreach programs for people who were interested in the community. The Wexner center has centered the community around museum studies and facilitated putting my passion for arts into something other than myself.
